IssaraWillenskomer

Head of UX Motion for AI products.

In AI products, waiting is the main experience. Thinking, generating, streaming, handing off: motion is how the product tells people what it's doing. At Oracle, my team defined how Oracle AI moves, from ad campaigns to agentic products.

AI motion

AI breaks the assumptions UI motion is built on. Durations are unknown, content arrives in pieces, and the software acts on its own.

  1. 01

    Waits with no known length

A response can take 200 ms or 20 seconds. Motion has to scale across that range and show progress honestly.

  2. 02

    Text that arrives in pieces

Streaming needs a reading rhythm, not a flicker. Its pacing decides whether people trust the answer.

  3. 03

    Telling AI apart

If every shimmer means AI, none of them mean anything. Each AI signal gets one meaning, used the same way everywhere.

  4. 04

    Agents that act

Motion shows what an agent is doing, what changed, and where a person can step in.

  5. 05

    Billboard to button

One visual language that works in an ad campaign and inside the product, without turning the product into an ad.

  6. 06

    Voice

Who's speaking and when the system is listening, shown through consistent color and motion roles.

03

Systems

Motion is information. Every system my team built starts by defining what each motion means.

AI signals

What is this visual claiming?

  • This triggers AI
  • This is AI
  • AI is working
  • AI made this

Easing by intent

Why is this element moving?

  • Enter
  • Persist
  • Exit to stage
  • Exit and depart

Reduced motion

What happens when motion is off?

  • Remove
  • Replace with a fade
  • Keep
  • Custom solution
  • Non-compliant

Architecture

How does motion scale?

  • Tokens
  • Patterns
  • Multi-patterns
  • Bespoke

8 token families · 60 ms timing grid · 3 easings mapped to 4 uses

04

Accessibility

Motion can make people physically sick. For an enterprise vendor, it's also legal exposure. My team built what I believe is a best-in-class reduced-motion system.

Why it matters

  • EthicsAbout 35% of US adults over 40 have experienced vestibular dysfunction (Johns Hopkins, 2009). Parallax, zoom and loops can cause nausea and migraines.
  • ComplianceSection 508, the ADA and the European Accessibility Act, in force since June 2025, all point back to WCAG.
  • LiabilityThousands of US digital accessibility lawsuits are filed every year. Motion that can't be turned off is an easy target.
  • 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide
  • 2.3.1 Three Flashes
  • 2.3.3 Animation from Interactions

What we built

  • ResearchInterviews with people who rely on reduced motion, a workshop with a PhD attention researcher, and a review of Apple, Windows, Android and the web.
  • FrameworkEvery motion is sorted into remove, fade, keep, custom or non-compliant. Motion that carries information gets an accessible equivalent.
  • AuditsBoth of Oracle's front-end frameworks audited, then a default pattern and guidelines for custom motion.
  • WorkflowSpecs require reduced-motion behavior, WCAG thresholds live in the pattern rules, and every AI asset has a reduced-motion version.
05

Leadership

I made UX Motion the hub for every product motion decision at Oracle, and I owned how the products feel.

⅓

Shipping it

Specs, tokens and engineering until it's live.

  • Vision

Grew the mandate from Redwood components to any product work involving motion, including Oracle's first AI motion in product and brand.

  • Brand partnership

Built the AI visual language with Oracle's brand and creative leadership. My team made the motion assets; marketing ran them in ads, billboards and events.

  • Executives

Set priorities with the VP who owned the design system, and sat in weekly design leadership meetings.

  • Operating model

Met about 40 PMs every cycle to triage hundreds of projects, then tracked intake, backlog, status and audits in Confluence and Jira.

  • How it feels

Every duration on a 60 ms grid and easings chosen by intent, so hundreds of teams ship motion that feels like one product.

  • People

Three promotions and an intern hired full-time in about two years. Each designer owned the area that fit their strengths.
